How the Nazis could have won

Tuesday, Apr 17, 1945

Trust Grandpa to put our feelings into words. We just got the letter he wrote April 13 about President Roosevelt’s death: “Last nite, the ominous news came crashing into the Allies world. And knowing the reaction of his devoted sympathizers, I felt that I had to say something of how I have appraised the situation in an effort to analyze my almost numb reactions to the situation…I am of the opinion that if our president had lost out against one of the dark reactionary nominees in 1936, we surely would have been witnessing the goose stepping as far west as Colorado by now. The same results might have been if he had died between then and the 1940 election.”
