What Patton did when he crossed the Rhine

Tuesday, Mar 27, 1945

I am sad today. Essie has left to go back to New York. The house is so quiet! We took her to the train station and hugged her goodbye. Mommy picked up a Chicago Tribune at the station. (That means more cartoons for me.) Now seven armies have crossed the Rhine and are racing to Berlin! The Russians are pushing on into Austria. There’s talk about how Patton is taking the same road Napoleon took on his drive into Germany. Apparently Patton did something naughty when he crossed the Rhine but no one will tell me what it was.
