My kittens and me in Denver

Monday, Mar 26, 1945

All day Mommy and Essie have been scrubbing the house and packing up all our bread. I can’t even have my favorite snack of animal crackers. Passover is coming and it couldn’t come at a more hopeful time. Our troops are smashing east and the Russians are smashing west. Germans are fleeing in record numbers and soldiers – boys, really – are dropping their weapons and surrendering. To top it all, the weather here is beautiful. I can play much as I want with my pets and keep out of the way. They’re not really my pets but they come in and all the time and practically live here!
