Congress worries about food shortages

Saturday, Mar 24, 1945

Is there a food crisis in our future here? Congress is worried enough to ban the induction of farmers into the armed forces. Churchill is already protesting the proposal to cut Lend Lease meat shipments to England. Daddy says our Victory Garden will help us do our part. When he came home from work today, he changed into his work clothes and went out to start clearing the area. Mommy wrote home that I helped, too. While he raked the dead leaves in a pile, I followed behind eating them. Better than eating bugs!
