Marines raise our flag over Iwo Jima

Friday, Feb. 23, 1945

Today Patton’s 3rd army drove 18 miles into Germany. But the news that has us all galvanized is this: the American flag was raised over Iwo Jima. There is a cost to these advances. We see them in the wounded veterans strolling the grounds here at Fitzsimons General Hospital. And in the lists of those who are missing or who have been killed in the campaigns.

Light the Sabbath candles.
