The immigrant who got the job done

Monday, Feb. 12, 1945

Oh, Lt. Kaufman was ever right: The Nazis did blast the Roer Dam to delay our troops. A flood of water 1200 feet wide roared down the Roer valley. Our troops have seized the dam but the controls can’t be turned off. It was a desperate measure by the Germans but has only halted, not stopped our advance.
