Goodbye, Siegfried Line

Tuesday, Feb. 6, 1945

After all the good news from the Pacific yesterday, now comes terrific news from Europe. Patton’s 3rd Army has punched through the Siegfried Line. Mommy and Daddy are holding their breath. Everyone is afraid there will be another breakout. The Germans are now defending their own homeland. We all expect fighting to become more desperate as we close in from the West and the Russians close in from the East. Mommy says we must keep filling that tin of fat to help keep our soldiers warm.
