San Tomas prisoners freed

Monday, Feb. 5, 1945

General MacArthur has freed over 3,000 internees from San Tomas, a Manila prison. The Red Cross moved in quickly, distributing letters sent from family back home years earlier. Even as the emaciated prisoners rejoiced, Japanese soldiers continued to shell the area. But this is a great victory that truly changes the balance in the Pacific.
