Needed: 9 millions yards of blankets

Tuesday, Jan 30, 1945

1945_tribune_jan-30_p-4Patton has crossed the German border! But the winter fighting is taking a terrible toll of our troops. Blankets and uniforms that are supposed to last five months are wearing out in half that time in the frozen mud and snow. That’s why the industry is appealing to us to save used fats. These fats are essential ingredients for the soaps used to make Army-issue blankets. Mommy keeps an empty tin by the stove. When it’s full with used grease and fats, we get two 2 red ration points for each pound.
