Inauguration Day

Saturday, Jan 20, 1945

Franklin D. Roosevelt was inaugurated today. “The sky is as blue as a torch song and nary a cloud,” Mommy wrote. “It is a lovely Saturday afternoon with bright sunshine and melting snow. The weather forecast is: snow, sleet, and freezing rain. But maybe the storm is delayed and won’t arrive til Sunday or Monday.” She ended the letter, wistfully, “Darling, wouldn’t it be lovely if I could sit on your lap and read this when it comes? I mean wouldn’t it be swell if I could get there before this does?”
