The Eastern Front moves West

Wednesday, Jan 17, 1945

Three Red armies converged on Warsaw and smashed through the 250-mile German defense belt and are hurtling west within 15 miles of the Silesian border. This doesn’t mean the war will end soon. In fact, our casualties are so high Congress is thinking of drafting nurses for the Army and Navy. More than 4,000 nurses applied when Roosevelt called for volunteers but the Navy alone needs that many. The Army needs 10,000! Three days until we leave for Denver.
