The Power of the Pen

Tuesday, Jan 16, 1945

anna-lucastaMommy is feeling more conciliatory today – especially because her friend Essie
Pinsker
is going to take her out for a lobster dinner and to see the play “Anna Lucasta,” tomorrow in Manhattan. Grandma and Grandpa will drive us into Brooklyn and then we’ll leave the 19th. Only a few more days until we’re back with Daddy in Denver! His letters have sustained us now for months – since after Thanksgiving. And imagine how letters sustain families who’ve been separated by the war for much longer. The pen may not always be mightier than the sword but what a miracle it is when the postman brings us his letters and brings him ours.
