Admiral Halsey has sunk 38 more Japanese ships. And there’s big news on the Russian front, too. Berlin reported that the long-awaited offensive, “the biggest of all time,” began last night along the Oder Vistula River front. The Russians penetrated German lines amid “extremely violent fighting.” And the Allies have continued pushing the Germans back out Belgium even as the Germans dropped thousands of propaganda leaflets urging GIs to stop fighting. The rumor is that the Nazis are so desperate for “manpower,” they’ve pressed boys into driving tanks on the battlefront. Despite hearing this, soldiers from the 9th Army were surprised when approached wrecked German ammunition trucks and found the bodies of two 16-year old boys, reported journalist Henry Wales. The US soldiers gave the boys a proper burial.
