Pearl Harbor’s Ghost Ships

Thursday, Dec. 7, 1944

Is it possible we’ve been at war now for almost three years? That’s my whole lifetime! Nothing can bring back the men and women who were killed when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor nor the buildings and ships that were destroyed. But there is some justice, of a sort. All six of Japanese carrier task force that launched the Japanese planes are now at the bottom of the sea, sunk by our own warships. What’s more, the “avengers” are the guns, machinery, and even whole parts of the hulls salvaged from the wreckage. The reborn USS Nevada helped bombard the D-Day landing beaches of Normandy on June 6. And on November 25 in Surigao Strait, our born-again battleships wiped out the Japanese fleet in 15 minutes.
