The war isn’t over yet but we’re already falling out with our friends. The British are fuming at our pronouncement that Italy was free to form its own new government without Allied participation. Ivanoe Bonomi, a dedicted anti-Fascist, is leading the transition but the British are worried about the Communists and other Left parties gaining control and shifting the past-war balance of power in Europe. Mommy says you can’t blame the British: They just battled Leftist mobs trying to free their compatriots from a jail in Athens. The future of Communism was always an issue when we accepted Stalin as an ally. Now the chickens are coming home to roost.
