No Melodrama!

Friday, Nov.17, 1944

Daddy laid down the law today. He’s still awaiting deployment orders and doesn’t know for sure what will happen, but he didn’t mince words in the latest letter to our families back East: “Just one more thing before I continue with this letter. Tears and a lot of sad words don’t make it easier for us, so I am going to limit you to one letter in which you can put down all the weepy and sorry things that you think of. You can also call me names in that letter but when we finally get home I don’t want any melodrama.”

Light the Sabbath candles and hope for a little peace.
