Armistice Day

Saturday, Nov.11, 1944

Today is Daddy’s day to write a long and reflective letter to all our folks back home but he’s too tired for the usual: “I was On Duty last and was up at 1 AM, 3 AM, 4 AM, and 6 AM just to inspect newly arrived men – 413 at 1:30 AM when the train pulled in! But from being up all night, I’m washed out.” But he does have an opinion about Armistice Day today: “Come to think of it, of all the useless wars I ever heard of WWI takes the cake. They did such a rotten job of it that the whole thing has to be fought all over again.” Good news about work: “Nothing ever came of that business between the general and the colonel. So far we are busier than ever here and expect to be even busier starting Monday when the WACS start school.” And an apology: “This is one of the worst letters I ever wrote. Mommy added this note: “Well, Red Book didn’t like my story and they sent it back so now I have to do it over again.”
