Meet my boyfriend

Saturday, Oct. 21, 1944

1944_denver_augI have a boyfriend! His name is Hector and we visit outside, although the playpen isn’t exactly romantic. Mommy wrote home that the weather is beautiful so she is keeping me outside as much as she can. Good weather is good news for Daddy since he is taking the bus to work. It’s good news for Mommy since she is walking (and pushing me in my carriage) to the shops. We’re low on gas and don’t have many ration coupons left so we’re trying to conserve gas for an emergency. Mommy doesn’t even want to go house hunting because it uses up too much gas and it’s always a disappointment. “Our house project,” she wrote, “is still status quo. I called the project builders yesterday and they told me that they are having trouble getting furnaces, so the opening date is still unknown.”
