Operation Hurricane

Monday, Oct. 16, 1944

In Europe today, the RAF completed “Operation Hurricane” – a massive bombing screen-shot-2016-10-10-at-11-55-20-amcampaign over Germany to show the people there how strong the Allies are. Mommy is getting very superstitious about house hunting. She wrote home today: “We have another lead on a house but this time I won’t talk about it because I’m getting superstitious. From now on, I’ll assume I can’t have it until I actually get it. Besides, we have our little project house which is gradually emerging as our best piece of luck. If not for that, we’d really be stuck in this frail cabin all winter. There is really nothing to be had! And what there is, provided they take children, is unspeakable, believe me.”
