More on eating bugs

Saturday, Sept. 30, 1944

In his letter today, Daddy defended himself against the whole bug issue. “About the insect diet – she hasn’t eaten them,” he wrote about me. “She just munches until we fish them out of her mouth. I’m sure it is not a taste for them as it is a natural instinct to put everything she handles into her mouth.” Tomorrow is Sukkot, the Jewish Festival celebrating the harvest and also the shelters the Israelites built while they wandered for 40 years ion the desert after fleeing Egypt. Mommy is sad she won’t be with her family. Grandpa always builds a little outdoor house of branches and flowers and fruit from the garden and the family eats there for seven days.
