The Army has spoken

Sunday, Aug 20, 1944

The Army has spoken: No overseas posting for Daddy. Instead, we’re going back to Fitzsimons Hospital in Denver. “It was the nicest good news we have had in a long time,” Mommy wrote today after Daddy called. “Maybe your system of expecting the worst is the best method after all, because we certainly never dreamed of anything like this!” Plus, they’ve allocated 150 gallons of gas to Daddy for the drive out to Denver. But now I’ll be spending my birthday on the train with Mommy going back to Washington, DC. She says we have less than a week to pack and up and drive west.
