1944 Naugatuck daily News_Aug 12 p.4Can an optimist be a pessimist? According to the paper, I am going to be part of an ignorant generation. T. F. Pierce, outgoing President of Optimists International, says, “We face the disturbing fact that boys and girls are being brought up under new conditions. A foremost postwar problem will the be the harvest of unintelligent new citizens, young male and female adolescents whose formative years have been spent in this war-torn world, untrained, undisciplined, totally lacking in family training or the training of the church.” He added, “Remember, they are always the first to follow the leadership of those who promise them the most.” I guess he’s right about my ignorance. I just can’t figure out this cartoon!
