We had a real Sabbath dinner tonight: gefilte fish, chicken, challah!! It all happened because Mommy tried to find Sylvia a place to observe the Sabbath. First she contacted a local Jewish agency, Hapoel Mizrachi. They found the Drazin family who not only invited Sylvia to join them for Friday night dinner but us, too. Sylvia is staying with them overnight so she can go with them to their shul. There isn’t one within walking distance of us. Sylvia will come back tomorrow evening when Sabbath ends at sundown. And in keeping with the Sabbath, the German Confessional Church indicted the Fascist “liquidation” of racial groups. The Church rose up against Fascism over ten years ago under courageous men such as Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Bishop Wurm of Wiirttemberg. Today’s manifesto included this statement: “Woe to us and our nation if we revile the Holy Scriptures as a Jewish book.
Light the Sabbath candles.
