Hitler’s Home Front and Mine

1944_Brooklyn Daily Eagle_July 23Sunday, July 23, 1944

Daddy’s here! He bartered and borrowed enough gas to get here. He’ll put Grandpa’s new tires on our car and on Tuesday we’ll driveto Brooklyn to stay with his family. On Saturday we’ll go back to Washington, DC. Now everyone’s talking about Germany: the Army has been put under Nazi control – wasn’t it always? – while regular army units have been fighting the SS. Hitler has urged the army to fight on till victory “in spite of everything.” But countering our hope for revolt is news that Lufthansa has resumed flights even though the Russians are less than 100 miles from Warsaw.
