Grandpa saves the day!

B stickerWednesday, July 19, 1944

Jubilation! It turns out my grandfather has been entitled all along to a “B” gasoline rationing sticker worth about 8 gallons a week because he’s a businessman. And he hasn’t used a single one because he walks to work. Even better, he actually put his car up on blocks with its “four brand-new, pre-war tires.” If my father can just get up here with a bit of gas and balding tires, he’ll be in good shape. As in incentive, Mom adds, “I spoke to your mother this morning. She is very anxious to see you and us.”
