Summer’s Revealing Swimwear

Tuesday, June 20, 1944

1944_Evening Review, Ohio_p.3_June 19This morning we picked up a paper in a small town and were thrilled to see the headline: Allies smash through Nazi lines in Cherbourg. Over 25,000 Nazis have now been trapped by our troops. To the north, the Russians have smashed through Nazi lines in Finland while our gunboats shell Guam. And even though German robot planes are attacking London, Churchill has predicted victory by this summer. A side issue for us: June has already broken records for heat and we’re headed into one of the hottest and muggiest places of all. No wonder newspapers are advertising backless and two-piece swimsuits. (the design also saves on fabric.) For the record, I don’t need a swimsuit — yet.
