“Take each day’s gifts…”

RobinThursday, June 15, 1944

“We have learned to take each day’s gifts and hope for the best tomorrow,” my mother wrote home. She was describing an evening walk: “The grounds around out cottage are apparently the remains of a large estate. There are all kinds of flowers and fruit trees, not to mention a million birds’ nests in the branches. At night we sit and watch the papa robins pulling up worms and collecting bugs for their babies who have not yet learned to fly.” We’re doing our own collecting here as we pack up for the drive to Washington, DC beginning Sunday.
