Germany Strikes Back: V1 Rockets

Tuesday, June 13, 1944

The Germans began a counter-offensive today: a rocket attack on Britain. Ten V-1 rockets were launched across the Channel. Most crashed far from their targets or failed to detonate. But one did blow up and six people were killed. The Germans hoped to pair this attack with a bomber run but the RAF destroyed most of their planes on the ground. That’s good news but is a reminder that the war is far from over. Stimson was right to warn us not to write off the Germans yet.
