President Roosevelt’s Fireside Chat

Monday, June 5, 1944

We are listening to the voice of President Roosevelt now. He is announcing the Fall of Rome. We heard about it yesterday through doctors at Fitzsimons but now the world knows. This is the beginning of the end, my mother says. Now our soldiers can push north into the heart of Germany and meet up with the Russians pushing west. But what about the invasion we kept hearing about – the one that was announced by mistake the other day? Without that, the war won’t end soon.
