1935 travel posterDaddy’s home! Mommy and Grandma are so happy again. And because it’s Sabbath and we’re together with family, he’s reading from a letter he wrote home in 1935 about the work he did in Palestine that summer. His friend “was able through some guy to get work for both of us – we start next week – somewhere out of Jerusalem, building a reservoir for water to Jerusalem – which has practically no water. It will be a real workers camp – and hard work.” The 1935 travel poster he saved makes Palestine look lush and fertile, but it wasn’t then. Palestine is in the news every day now as European Jews – the ones who still survive Nazi genocide – try to get in and the British try to keep them out.
