Mmmmm, homemade chicken soup

1944_BrooklynFriday, May 5, 1944

Mmmm, the smell of chicken soup simmering on the stove! My grandmother gave me a big hug when we finally arrived. And my mother gave me an extra big hug, too, because I slept in the car all the way from Connecticut to Brooklyn. Now I’m all dressed up to play with my cousins before Sabbath starts. That’s me with the bows in my hair. My father will arrive from Carlisle any minute – or maybe not til tomorrow. Yes, he’s driving on the Sabbath. But my grandmother is glad she’ll have him for the weekend. Who knows when we’ll be together again?
