Friday March 31, 1944

1944_Harrisbiurg_p.19_March 31More bad news: One of our carriers was hit in the Philippines and the RAF has lost 96 bombers in a raid on Nuernberg while the Japanese have pushed farther into India. In the midst of this bad news, spring is on its way and that means Victory Gardens. “Carrot seeds should be sown early,” advises William Ross, Educational Director of the Harrisburg Parks Department. And we’re eating lots of eggs; they’re so plentiful and cheap, E. J. Lawson, Jr, a specialist with the Pennsylvania Agriculture Department, is advising people to buy and color lots of extra ones to reduce the glut. Yes, people are starting to plan for Easter celebrations next week. And Passover will begin the evening before Easter.

Light the Sabbath candles.
