Winter Quarters – A Russian gets a Manicure?

Friday Feb 4, 1944

Nothing can stop the Russians. Swedish newspapers report that the Nazis are evacuating 1944_Daily Eagle_p.2_Feb. 4civilians from Polish cities on the Baltic as they withdraw west in the face of the Russian advance. Whatever Americans think of Communism, we’re grateful for these tough fighters, especially when swift German counterattacks in Cassino have brought the Allied advance there to a halt. The Germans are boasting that they’ve trapped large Allied forces at the Nettuno beachhead. American reports conceded that the situation is grave but that toughened forces have been sent back into the town. Under these circumstances, we don’t begrudge Marshall Sharposhnikov his manicures.

My grandmother is lighting the Sabbath candles so I’ll say good night.
