Reality and a new hairdo

Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1943

p.7_Sept.8, 1943Good news for the Home Front: Italian wines would become available to replenish American liquor cabinets.   The news for women is hairdos that are short and simple. There is no time to waste with anything fancy and no materials for it anyway. The big rolls and buns are out; they just take too much time for women who are going to work. But that doesn’t mean women can’t look elegant. Top the short ‘do with a small hat and you’re ready to go. Anyway, today Lois wrote her parents, “I have to get up at the most unmentionable hours,” and apologized for sending such a short letter. Reality was setting in. She probably didn’t have time to do her hair up in the new short fashionable hairdos.
