Monday, August 30, 1943

Abe was proving a devoted husband as Lois and her baby came home. Housework didn’t faze him as Lois wrote to her parents: “ Abe is running himself ragged getting things ready and doing countless chores when he gets home. He works all day, drives out here for the long day, and then goes home to clean in the evening, unpack, and prepare. I am beginning to discover that having a baby is no small trifle.” And now comes galvanizing news: “The death of Boris has set the Bulgarians afire.” The German’s Eastern front is cracking. Another revolt in Denmark as well is said to be straining Nazi power. And what to make of the news that the Germans are adopting an ancient weapon – shields.
