Good news at last: McArthur Hits New Convoy! In Africa, Eisenhower vowed, “We’ll push the Axis to destruction.” On the Home Front the GOP issued its “Roll of Honor” naming the congressmen who repealed the salary cap. Meanwhile, temperatures were finally climbing above freezing. Sap was running in the maple trees and the papers were full of ads for fetching spring hats. And if that wasn’t a hopeful enough sign, British envoy Anthony Eden was in the USA already laying the groundwork for cooperation with Russia after the war. But buried further back in the paper: 19 die as u-boat sinks freighter.
