Silk lingerie is the perfect gift. Stated Rae Seeger in the Tribune today, “The girl does not live who won’t thrill to a gift of lingerie.” This column is especially interesting since silk was needed for parachutes and silk stockings were now a thing of the past. America was still sheltered from the privations of war, even if civilian meat rations were being cut to 35 oz a week . In Britain, a special decree allowed parents to give their children Christmas gifts that cost $2 and under. But Rommel was on the run in North Africa. The war couldn’t go on too much longer, could it?
